Edge-Orienting on Split, Planar and Treelike Graphs

چکیده
Let G(V, E) be an undirected connected graph, where each vertex v is associated with a positive cost C(v) and each edge e 5 (u, v) is associated with two positive weights, W(u! v) and W(v! u). We consider a new graph problem, called the edge-orientation problem (the EOP). The major issue is to assign each edge e 5 (u, v) an orientation, either from u to v, denoted as u! v, or from v to u, denoted as v! u, such that maxx[VfC(x)1Sx!z W(x! z)g is minimized. This paper first shows that the EOP is NP-hard on split graphs and planar graphs. Then, a linear-time algorithm on star graphs is proposed by the prune-and-search strategy. Finally, the algorithmic result on star graphs is extended to trees and simple cactus graphs using the dynamic programming strategy.

The edge tenacity of a split graph
The edge tenacity Te(G) of a graph G is dened as:Te(G) = min {[|X|+τ(G-X)]/[ω(G-X)-1]|X ⊆ E(G) and ω(G-X) > 1} where the minimum is taken over every edge-cutset X that separates G into ω(G - X) components, and by τ(G - X) we denote the order of a largest component of G. The objective of this paper is to determine this quantity for split graphs. Let G = (Z; I; E) be a noncomplete connected split...
متن کاملWeighted coloring on planar, bipartite and split graphs: Complexity and approximation
We study complexity and approximation of min weighted node coloring in planar, bipartite and split graphs. We show that this problem is NP-hard in planar graphs, even if they are triangle-free and their maximum degree is bounded above by 4. Then, we prove that min weighted node coloring is NP-hard in P8-free bipartite graphs, but polynomial for P5-free bipartite graphs. We next focus on approxi...
متن کاملComplexity of Edge Monitoring on Some Graph Classes
In this paper, we study the complexity of the edge monitoring problem. A vertex v monitors an edge e if both extremities together with v form a triangle in the graph. Given a graph G = (V,E) and a weight function on edges c where c(e) is the number of monitors that needs the edge e, the problem is to seek a minimum subset of monitors S such that every edge e in the graph is monitored by at leas...
متن کاملSurface Split Decompositions and Subgraph Isomorphism in Graphs on Surfaces
The Subgraph Isomorphism problem asks, given a host graph G on n vertices and a pattern graph P on k vertices, whether G contains a subgraph isomorphic to P . The restriction of this problem to planar graphs has often been considered. After a sequence of improvements, the current best algorithm for planar graphs is a linear time algorithm by Dorn (STACS ’10), with complexity 2O(k) ·O(n). We gen...
متن کاملCERTAIN TYPES OF EDGE m-POLAR FUZZY GRAPHS
In this research paper, we present a novel frame work for handling $m$-polar information by combining the theory of $m-$polar fuzzy sets with graphs. We introduce certain types of edge regular $m-$polar fuzzy graphs and edge irregular $m-$polar fuzzy graphs. We describe some useful properties of edge regular, strongly edge irregular and strongly edge totally irregular $m-$polar fuzzy graphs. W...
